Scottish Government announces no coronavirus deaths amid 478 new cases overnight

The Scottish Government has announced no new coronavirus death and 478 cases in Scotland overnight.

The latest figures bring the total number of confirmed cases to 236,389 since the start of the global outbreak last year.

Since that time, 7,669 have sadly lost their lives to the virus.

A total of 106 people are currently being treated in  hospital with 10 receiving intensive care treatment.

Meanwhile, 3,267,290 people have now received their first dose of the coronavirus vaccine with 2,075,231 having had second jags.

The figures come as Nicola Sturgeon is set to update the nation on the latest lockdown decision.

The First Minister is expected to confirm the areas that will move to level one restrictions from next Monday.

More people are allowed to meet outdoors in level one, while the numbers allowed to attend certain events - such as weddings and funerals - is increased under the rules.

Hospitality venues  are allowed to open for longer, with closing times limited to 11pm every evening.

But a number of local authority areas could miss out on the next stage of easing as concerns continue to grow over the April 02 variant.

Glasgow  is expected to move down to level two this Saturday, with a decision set to be made no later than tomorrow.
