The Scottish Government have confirmed that there have been nine additional covid deaths in the last 24 hours.

A total of 5,242 coronavirus cases have also been recorded in the latest Public Health Scotland figures. Test positivity is currently at 14.9 per cent.

There are 515 people in hospital confirmed to have the virus with 37 being treated in intensive care.

4,373,917 people have received their first dose of a COVID-19 vaccination, 3,997,192 their second dose and 2,630,615 have got a third dose or booster.

This comes as it's reported Nicola Sturgeon introduces new restrictions on football matches in a bid to halt the spread of the Omicron variant.

Football matches will be capped at 500 people from December 26 in a bid to control Omicron.

A source told the Record First Minister Nicola Sturgeon will announce the limit for outdoor events for three weeks.

It will effectively mean sports matches are fan free for the period.

One metre physical distancing will also be required.
