Scottish Government announces 7,065 Covid cases in last 24 hours

The Scottish Government has confirmed there have been no new recorded deaths from coronavirus in the last 24 hours.

The latest figures for Scotland showed that 7,065 new cases had also been identified overnight.

It means the death toll since last March – of people who first tested positive for the virus within the previous 28 days – is 8,165.

There are currently 771 people in hospital confirmed to have the virus with 71 being treated in intensive care.

To date 4,126,263 people have received their first vaccination with 3,736,762 having a second jab.

The new figures come as the firm building Scotland’s Covid passport app has not had final instructions – with just weeks to go before its planned launch.

The First Minister last week announced plans for people to prove vaccination status to gain entry to nightclubs and some events.

It will be introduced later this month if backed by MSPs but the app is not yet seem to be finalised.

A grieving mother who caught Covid during her pregnancy has also revealed that she believes the virus may have led to the stillborn birth of her baby.

Sharnai Crossland went into early labour in July, however instead of leaving hospital with her new family she left holding only a memory box.

According to the BBC, a large UK study suggests having coronavirus around the time of birth may increase the chance of stillbirths and premature births.
