Scottish Government announces 6 Coronavirus deaths and 563 positive cases overnight

A further six people have died from coronavirus overnight, the Scottish Government has announced.

A total of 563 new positive cases were also reported by health boards across the country as the number continues to rise.

283 Scots are currently being treated in hospital for the killer bug with 26 in intensive care.

The latest figures, released on Saturday afternoon, brings the total number of deaths to of 7,584 people since the start of the pandemic.

We earlier told how Nicola Sturgeon has now been invited to get her first coronavirus jag.

The First Minister joked that receiving the blue letter helped ‘soften the blow’ of turning 50.

Writing on social media, the SNP leader said: “My blue envelope has arrived (it really does soften the blow of being 50!)

“We’re on track to offer first doses to all over 50s, unpaid carers & adults with underlying health conditions by mid Apr and all adults by the end July (supplies permitting).

“My thanks to our vaccination teams.”
