Scottish Government announces 4 deaths and 1,317 covid cases in last 24 hours

The Scottish Government has reported that 4 people have died from coronavirus and that 1,317 new cases had been identified overnight.

It brings the death toll since last March – of people who first tested positive for the virus within the previous 28 days – to 7,688.

There are currently 140 people in hospital confirmed to have the virus with 12 being treated in intensive care.

The total number of positive cases since the pandemic hit stands at 250,961.

To date 3,571,726 people have received their first vaccination with 2,516,066 having a second jab.

The figures come as thousands of Tartan Army fans have been scrambling to get proof of vaccination and negative tests together before tomorrow night’s Wembley showdown with England.

Unlike the Hampden games, English FA chiefs have insisted on full proof of Covid protection for the 2,700 lucky enough to get briefs for the crunch match at Euro 2020.

All supporters are expected to have evidence of two vaccinations or a test done within 48 hours of kick-off - meaning many will be taking the fast lateral flow tests today and hoping for a negative result.
