Scottish Government announces 39 coronavirus deaths in Scotland amid 1,064 new cases

A further 31 coronavirus deaths have been recorded in Scotland over the last 24 hours.

The Scottish Government also announced that 1,064 new cases of Covid-19 were reported overnight, taking the total figure to 105,370.

The death total has sadly now risen to 4,109 since the beginning of the pandemic in March.

994 people are in hospital being treated for the deadly virus while 52 people remain in intensive care.

The news comes as a number of people have died at a Scots care home after contracting Covid-19 as 48 people in total tested positive for the deadly bug.

NHS chiefs confirmed the outbreak at Lomond Court in the Woodside area on Glenrothes, Fife on Friday December 11. A total of 26 residents and 22 workers at the HC One facility have caught the virus.

It’s believed less that five people have died after contracting Covid-19 at the care home.

A spokesperson said: “NHS Fife can confirm that 26 residents and 22 staff associated with Lomond Court Care Home in Glenrothes have tested positive for Covid-19.

“Sadly, there has been loss of life connected to the cluster. We can confirm that the number is less than five.”
