Scottish Government announces 34 deaths and 2,693 covid cases in last 24 hours

The Scottish Government has confirmed that 34 people have died from coronavirus in the last 24 hours,

The latest figures for Scotland showed that 2,693 new cases had also been identified overnight.

It brings the death toll since last March – of people who first tested positive for the virus within the previous 28 days – to 8,648.

There are currently 983 people in hospital confirmed to have the virus with 65 being treated in intensive care.

The total number of positive cases since the pandemic started stands at 568,916.

To date 4,194,212 people have received their first vaccination with 3,840,251 having a second jab.

The figures come as users of NHS Scotland's new vaccine passport app are still facing technical issues.

Launched at 5.30pm yesterday, there have been a number of glitches which have prevented people from using the software properly.

Some had issues with uploading their passport or driving licence which are required to access the app.

Others reported error messages when attempting to sign up and create a new account.

From 5am today, people will need to provide they've had both vaccines to enter ‘high risk’ venues including nightclubs, large-scale events and football matches.
