Scottish Government announces 33 deaths and 8,516 covid cases in last 24 hours

The Scottish Government have confirmed 33 people have died from coronavirus in the last 24 hours.

The death toll since March 2020 – of people who first tested positive for the virus within the previous 28 days – is 10,255.

The latest figures for Scotland showed 8,516 new cases had also been identified overnight.

There are currently 1,389 people in hospital confirmed to have the virus with 32 being treated in intensive care.

So far 4,407,738 people have received their first dose of a vaccination, 4,115,341 their second , and 3,269,583 a third dose or booster.

It comes as a letter exchange between Boris Johnson and a child who cancelled her birthday party during lockdown has resurfaced.

Josephine, who had turned seven, wrote to him to tell him she was “staying at home because you asked us to” in March 2020.

She added that she hoped that it would help covid spreading further.

The Prime Minister praised Josephine for cancelling her birthday party because of the pandemic.

However reports emerged earlier this week that just months later, he had his own birthday party.
