Scottish Government announces 31 deaths and 3,598 covid cases in last 24 hours

The Scottish Government has confirmed that 31 people have died from coronavirus in the last 24 hours,

The latest figures for Scotland showed that 3,598 new cases had also been identified overnight.

It brings the death toll since last March – of people who first tested positive for the virus within the previous 28 days – to 8,427.

There are currently 1,076 people in hospital confirmed to have the virus with 82 being treated in intensive care.

The total number of positive cases since the pandemic started stands at 542,411.

To date 4,163,235 people have received their first vaccination with 3,815,907having a second dose.

The figures comes after Nicola Sturgeon gave an update on the current situation in Scotland at Holyrood yesterday.

The First Minister noted the fall in cases but added that the number of people in hospital and intensive care remains high.

Among the other key issues discussed were vaccine passports, international travel, PCR testing for arrivals into Scotland.

Sturgeon also confirmed that vaccinations are now being offered to 12 to 15-year-olds as well as third dose booster jabs for some.
