Scottish Government announces 27 deaths and 3,002 covid cases in last 24 hours

The Scottish Government has confirmed 27 people have died from coronavirus in the last 24 hours,

It brings the death toll since last March – of people who first tested positive for the virus within the previous 28 days – to 9,618.

The latest figures for Scotland showed 3,002 new cases had also been identified overnight.

The total number of positive cases since the pandemic started stands at 733,329.

There are currently 680 people in hospital confirmed to have the virus with 48 being treated in intensive care.

To date 4,349,058 people have received their first vaccination with 3,953,170 having a second jab, while 1,755,694 have received a third dose or booster.

The original outbreak of the new strain was all connected to one event on Saturday November 20.

Like the initial nine, the latest case identified is also in the NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) and Lanarkshire areas.

All close contacts of suspected Omicron cases will be advised to self-isolate for 10 days regardless of their vaccination status.
