Scottish Government announces 24 new coronavirus deaths and 845 cases in Scotland

A further 24 coronavirus deaths have been recorded in Scotland over the last 24 hours.

The Scottish Government also announced that 845 new cases of COVID-19 were reported overnight.

996 people are in hospital being treated for the deadly virus while 45 people remain in intensive care.

The daily update came as Nicola Sturgeon prepared to update the nation on coronavirus restriction levels for each local authority this afternoon.

The First Minister previously said that she hopes the measures that came into force last Friday would stay in place throughout the Christmas period.

She has already urged people in Scotland to “cut down on unnecessary contacts” now if they plan on meeting up with relatives at Christmas.

She said that the “best Christmas gift we can give family and friends” is to “keep our distance and keep them safe”.

The First Minister is addressing parliament and is expected to deliver the review around 2.20pm.

She will face question from MSPs after the update rather than from the media.
