The Scottish Government has confirmed that 21 people have died from coronavirus in the last 24 hours.
The latest figures for Scotland showed that 2,581 new cases had also been identified overnight.
It brings the death toll since last March – of people who first tested positive for the virus within the previous 28 days – to 8,907.
There are currently 841 people in hospital confirmed to have the virus with 47 being treated in intensive care.
The total number of positive cases since the pandemic started stands at 602,524.
To date 4,282,132 people have received their first vaccination with 3,875,966 having a second jab.
The figures come as a new study reveals that Scots who take statins may be less likely to die from Covid.
The research by experts at the Karolinska Institutet in Sweden looked at the links between the drugs and coronavirus mortality.
It found that statin treatment was associated with a slightly lower risk of death from Covid.
Tim Chico, professor of cardiovascular medicine and honorary consultant cardiologist, University of Sheffield, said: "This study does not prove that statins reduce death in Covid-19, but does provide some supportive clues.
"It observes that people prescribed statins were less likely to die than similar people."
