Scottish Government announces 14-day quarantine for travellers from Luxembourg

Tourists and travellers to Scotland from Luxembourg will need to self-isolate for 14 days, the Scottish Government has announced this evening.

It comes as the holiday destination reported Europe's highest coronavirus infection rate.

Figures show 214.9 cases per 100,000 people — more than four times Spain's rate.

This will mean all returning travellers must self-isolate for 14 days in a bid to stop the halt of infection.

The Scottish Government wrote : "The decision to remove the country from the list of destinations exempt from quarantine requirements has been made to reduce the risk of the transmission of the virus by those travelling from Luxembourg and arriving in Scotland.

"The public health measures will come into force at midnight tonight and will mean those arriving in Scotland from Luxembourg will be required to quarantine for 14 days.

Justice Secretary Humza Yousaf said: "This decision is based on the latest available data from the Joint Biosecruity Centre and it gives another clear indication that the virus is active and still spreading.

"We have always maintained that we are closely monitoring the pandemic situation in all countries and we will impose quarantine requirements as necessary in a bid to protect the public."

It comes as Boris Johnson has warned there are signs of a "second wave" of coronavirus in Europe.

The number of new Covid-19 infections across the UK has risen by more than a third in just two days - but the UK Government today said it will not be releasing a daily death toll.
