Scottish Government announces 11 deaths and 2434 covid cases in last 24 hours

The Scottish Government has confirmed that 11 people have died from coronavirus in the last 24 hours,

The latest figures for Scotland showed that 2434 new cases had also been identified overnight.

It brings the death toll since last March – of people who first tested positive for the virus within the previous 28 days – to 9,801.

There are currently 536 people in hospital confirmed to have the virus with 40 being treated in intensive care.

The total number of positive cases since the pandemic started stands at 814,359.

To date 4,375,588 people have received their first vaccination with 4,000,171 having a second jab. So far 2,708,761 have received a third dose or booster.

The figures come as a new study suggested vaccinated people who get Covid may gain "super immunity".

Researchers found that people who catch coronavirus after getting jabbed might have more antibodies than those who did not have Covid.

Scientists also discovered antibodies in infected people's blood were up to 1,000 percent more effective.

Oregon Health & Science University's study looked at 26 fully vaccinated healthcare workers who later got Covid and comparing them with jabbed people who had not tested positive.
