Scottish Government announces 1,159 new coronavirus cases but no deaths overnight

No further people are reported to have died from coronavirus in Scotland in the past 24 hours.

The low figure is a result of Register Offices being closed over the weekend, and may not be a true reflection of the figures.

The latest Scottish Government figures have revealed that there were however 1,159 new infections recorded overnight.

More than 81,000 people have tested positive for the virus in Scotland since the beginning of the pandemic.

A total of 3,280 Scots have sadly died as a result of Covid-19.

There are also 1,241 virus patients currently being treated in Scottish hospitals - 100 of which are intensive care.

The latest statistics come after it was revealed that Health Secretary Jane Freeman’s partner is a key member in the group that called for students to return to uni campuses earlier this year.

Outbreaks of coronavirus were recorded in Edinburgh, Glasgow, Dundee and Aberdeen shortly after students packed into halls of residence.
