Scottish Government announce no new Covid deaths as cases rise by 2726 overnight

No new coronavirus deaths have been reported in Scotland with 2726 new positive cases overnight.

The Scottish Government announced the latest figures this afternoon as the virus continues to spread across the country.

316 people are currently in hospital with 25 requiring intensive care as they battle the bug.

A total of 295,113 Scots have now caught coronavirus since the start of the pandemic with 7729 deaths recorded.

3,857,584people have now had their first dose of the vaccine while 2,762,156 have been doubled jabbed.

It comes as Scotland was found to have six out of 10 of Europe's Covid hot spots, according to a shock report by the World Health Organisation (WHO).

There are fears that remaining lockdown restrictions could be eased more slowly north of the border, while they are scrapped almost entirely in England, due to rising case numbers.

All of Scotland's council areas are due to be placed at Level 0 of lockdown as of July 19, with social distancing rules abolished by August 9.

Nicola Sturgeon said on Friday she was confident those dates could still be met, despite the region with highest number of coronavirus cases per 100,000 people in Europe being Tayside - with 1,002 recorded over the previous fortnight as of June 30.

In second place was Lothian with 990 recorded cases per 100,000 people, then Greater Glasgow with 735. Other Scottish regions in the top ten include Ayrshire and Arran (579), Lanarkshire (571) and Fife (558).
