Scottish Government announce no new Covid deaths as cases rise by 2372 overnight

No new coronavirus deaths have been reported in Scotland with 2372 new positive cases overnight.

The Scottish Government announced the latest figures this afternoon as the virus continues to spread across the country.

338 people are currently in hospital with 30 requiring intensive care as they battle the bug.

A total of 297,485 Scots have now caught coronavirus since the start of the pandemic with 7729 deaths recorded.

3,869,223 people have now had their first dose of the vaccine while 2,774,136 have been doubled jabbed.

It comes after Scotland was found to have six out of 10 of Europe's covid hot spots, according to a World Health Organisation (WHO) report.

Tayside, specifically, is the region with the highest number of coronavirus cases per 100,000 people in Europe with 1,002 recorded over the previous fortnight as of June 30.

All areas of Scotland are due to be placed at Level 0 of lockdown from July 19 with social distancing abolished by August 9, First Minister Nicola Sturgeon confirmed on Friday.

Scottish Labour Leader Anas Sarwar has called for the gap between first and second vaccinations to be halved to four weeks to deal with the “out of control” spread of the virus.
