Scottish Government announce 532 new coronavirus cases overnight and no new deaths

No further Scots have died of coronavirus in the last 24 hours.

Figures announced by the Scottish Government this afternoon reveal 532 new cases of the virus have been identified overnight, bringing the total cases to 213, 529.

The latest figures mean that, since the start of the pandemic, 7,552 people have lost their lives to coronavirus in Scotland.

The statistics also reveal a total of 344 people are being treated in hospital, with 31 in ICU.

2, 144, 940 people have received the first dose of the Covid vaccination and 220,188 have received their second dose.

The news comes after a scientist warned that fourth wave of Covid-19 could hit Scotland despite the vaccine rollout. Professor Andrew Hayward said a fourth wave across all of the UK is ‘still likely’ as some people are still not vaccinated.

He added that any future wave of the deadly bug would be less dangerous, as so many people have received either one or two jabs.

Professor Hayward, from University College London, said: “I think another wave is possible, likely even.”
