Scottish Government announce 1,250 new covid cases and no deaths overnight

The Scottish Government has confirmed there are no new death from coronavirus in the last 24 hours with 1,250 new cases identified overnight.

It means the death toll since last March – of people who first tested positive for the virus within the previous 28 days – remains at 7,692.

There are currently 158 people in hospital confirmed to have the virus with 14 being treated in intensive care.

However, both NHS Grampian and NHS Lothian experienced data issues over the weekend so these figures may not accurately reflect the correct total.

The figures will be updated fully tomorrow.

The total number of positive cases since the pandemic hit stands at 2,162,310.

To date 3,647,437 people have received their first vaccination with 2,586,970 having a second jab.

Nicola Sturgeon has received her second dose of the coronavirus vaccine at the NHS Louisa Jordan in Glasgow.

The First Minister took to social media to thank the staff at the covid hospital in the SSE Hydro for helping with the vaccination programme.

In her message Sturgeon also urged her fellow Scots to make sure they get their second dose of the jab when invited for an appointment.

it comes after the SNP leader's number two has rejected calls to compensate people affected by the Scottish Government travel ban to Manchester.

John Swinney said financial support would not be “appropriate” and said the ban is “consistent” with similar policies in the past.

Nicola Sturgeon’s announcement on Friday that all non-essential travel to Manchester and Salford would be banned was met with a furious reaction by Greater Manchester mayor Andy Burnham.

Meanwhile Scotland have been rocked on the eve of their massive showdown against Croatia after Billy Gilmour tested positive for Covid-19.

The Chelsea starlet was a standout on his full international debut against England at Wembley as he helped Steve Clarke’s men secure a 0-0 draw.

That result boosted Scotland’s chances of a last-16 spot at Euro 2020 and Gilmour’s performance saw him come in for massive praise.

But Clarke will now have to do without the 20-year-old following the news that he returned a positive coronavirus test as he goes into self isolation for 10 days.
