Scottish football saved from financial catastrophe after Government cash bail-out breakthrough

Scottish football looks set to saved from financial catastrophe after a breakthrough in talks with the Government this afternoon.

Record Sport understands the the SFA and SPFL Joint Response Group will release a statement this evening confirming that an agreement has been struck between the football authorities and Holyrood during crunch talks with sports minister Joe FitzPatrick this afternoon.

Details of the financial solution have yet to be confirmed but it’s believed FitzPatrick - who held talks over funding with the UK Government last week - has confirmed that a cash bail-out is on the way to help clubs survive without supporters.

And a new consensus has also been reached to work out a road map on how and when fans can be safely allowed to return to grounds around the country.

The news will come as a huge relief to a wide range of Scottish clubs, many of which have raised distress signals at the thought of being asked to play on without any match day income.

A source told us: “It looks like there will be some good news for those clubs who are feeling the most financial strain. Without fans and without government funding Scottish football faces an existential threat but thankfully this has now been acknowledged by the government.”
