Scottish football reaches cash bailout agreement with Scottish Government as they ride to the rescue of struggling clubs

Scottish football has reached a bailout agreement with the Scottish Government that will see financial help given to clubs struggling to cope without fans.

A number of lower league Scottish Clubs were deeply worried at their ability to keep going the longer the lockout of fans from games went on, with a real danger some of them would go to the wall.

But the Daily Record reports that there’s good news after the Scottish football joint response group, composed of SPFL and Scottish FA representatives, held positive talks with sports minister Joe Fitzpatrick.

That;s despite league supremo Neil Doncaster accusing Holyrood of taking a 'political rather than clinical' decision when preventing fans going to matches.

The JRG are set to confirm the deal in a statement due later.

The exact details of the arrangement remain unclear, but a cash injection is on the way to help keep the doors open at clubs.

And there has also been an agreement on a new road map that will detail when and how fans can be allowed back through the turnstiles.

A source said: “It looks like there will be some good news for those clubs who are feeling the most financial strain.

"Without fans and without government funding Scottish football faces an existential threat but thankfully this has now been acknowledged  by the government.”
