Teenager arrested following 'assault' after Dunfermline v Raith Rovers game

A TEENAGER has been arrested after an 18-year-old man was taken to hospital following an "assault" after the Scottish Championship match between Raith Rovers and Dunfermline on Tuesday.

Raith Rovers took to Twitter/X on Tuesday evening to explain the situation following the club's 2-1 victory.

In a statement, they revealed they were aware of an incident involving one of their supporters being assaulted.

The club also confirmed they are working with Police Scotland and Dunfermline Athletic in an effort to identify those involved in the alleged attack.

On Wednesday, Police Scotland confirmed a 17-year-old male has now been arrested but that enquiries remain ongoing.

Inspector Neil McGurk said: "A 17-year-old male youth has been arrested in connection with the assault of an 18-year-old man which happened in Dunfermline around 5.30pm on Tuesday, January 2 2024 following the Dunfermline Athletic v Raith Rovers football fixture.

"Enquiries are ongoing to trace others involved."

A spokesperson for Raith Rovers previously said: “We are aware of an incident involving one of our supporters being assaulted after today’s match.

“We have contacted the supporter to check on their wellbeing and to see how we can provide support in any way possible.

“The incident has been reported to the police and we will work with Dunfermline Athletic to identify the offenders.”
