Scottish football chief claims country is 'brainwashed' over coronavirus and demands 'alternative experts'

An angry Scottish football boss demanded "alternative" expert views on coronavirus in a backlash at restrictions on sport.

Peterhead FC's Rodger Morrison warned clubs will sink if fans cannot return and demanded an explanation and more help from the Scottish Government.

The comments come before talks between sport minister Joe FitzPatrick and club leaders on the future of the game under pandemic restrictions.

Morrison made his view clear in an attack on policies supported by officials including Scotland's national clinical director Jason Leitch, who fears the virus will spread out of control if everything opens up too soon.

Morrison told BBC Radio Scotland: "I'm sure that's Jason Leitch's view, but unfortunately there is no parliamentary democracy at this moment in time, it's almost like a dictatorship both from the UK government and the Scottish government.

"We only hear one set of views from experts, there seems to be very, very little media coverage on alternative experts on their views.

"There certainly is crowds being allowed back into Europe to a certain degree.

"No, I'm afraid I think we're being brainwashed."

Morrison wants the SFL and SPFL to "start kicking back a bit", claiming it is safer for crowds in the lower leagues than in big stadiums.

Earlier, Leitch explained the reasons for current restrictions in a Q&A posted online by the BBC. He said: "I completely get the angst about crowds and people saying they've gone to Alloa every second week for their whole life and there's no risk because they'll walk there and socially distance. It really hurts me to not allow that but we have to minimise the risk."

Asked if stadiums will fill up soon, he responded: “I don't think we'll see full capacity stadiums this season. I think we'll see crowds before next summer but not full stadiums, I don't think."
