Scottish Fire and Rescue are currently tackling a grass fire in Ravelrig Heights in Balerno.
In a statement posted online, they said: "We are currently attending a grass fire at Ravelrig Heights in Edinburgh.
"We are advising residents to stay indoors and close all windows due to the large amount of smoke."
Ravelrig Heights is a large new build development situated in the Edinburgh suburb of Balerno.
Pictures sent to Edinburgh Live show grey smoke pouring out from a few miles away.
