A "FAIRYTALE" castle in Scotland, which apparently "inspired" Walt Disney, has been named one of the best in the world.
The "picturesque" fortress in Aberdeenshire was named alongside iconic spots around the globe, including Neuschwanstein Castle in Germany and Lichtenstein Castle.
Introducing its ranking, the BBC's Countryfile said that everything from "candy-pink towers" to "misty hilltop fortresses" were featured, with each entry looking like something straight out of a "Disney fairytale."

Why this 'fairytale' castle in Scotland that 'inspired Walt Disney' is one of the world's best
Explaining why the Scottish castle is one of the best fairytale keeps in the world, BBC's Countryfile said that no castle gets closer to the "Disney archetype" than Craigievar Castle in Aberdeenshire.
The magazine added that it could even be the original Disney Castle, as it is widely believed to have "inspired" Walt Disney.
While construction of the castle began in the late 16th century, the seven-storey structure wasn't completed until 1626.
The incomplete structure was purchased from the Mortimer family by William Forbes, with it remaining in his family's hands until 1963, when it was sold to the National Trust for Scotland.
It is said to be a great example of Scottish Baronial architecture, featuring an "elegant" pink tower, something described as "spellbindingly beautiful" by Visit Scotland.
The tourism organisation adds that Craigievar also "fits naturally" amongst the rolling hills of Aberdeenshire.
The grounds here are said to be "equally bewitching," featuring waymarked woodland trails that are home to bluebells and the stunning red squirrel.

Another added: "Had a great visit, guided by Ellen. Such a beautiful pink castle and so interesting to learn about the history. Spiral staircase and internal steps; take care."
