Scottish FA confirms that all games are off this weekend in tribute to Queen

Scottish FA chiefs have confirmed that all matches across all Scottish football leagues are off this weekend, following the death of Queen Elizabeth II on Thursday.

The sport's governing body has issued a statement saying that all matches in the Scottish Professional Football League (SPFL), Scottish Highland and Lowland Leagues and Scottish Women's Premier League are all postponed.

West of Scotland League games, including South Challenge Cup ties, were also postponed, confirmed by league bosses shortly after the Scottish FA's announcement.

It's a mark of respect following the death of the 96-year-old monarch on Thursday afternoon.

Their statement read: "Following meetings this morning, the Scottish FA, Scottish Professional Football League, Scottish Women's Premier League and Scottish Highland and Lowland Football Leagues have agreed that all professional football matches will be postponed this weekend as a mark or respect, following the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

"This postponement will also incorporate the Women's Scottish Cup fixtures this weekend."

SPFL chief executive Neil Doncaster said: "Following consultation with the UK and Scottish Governments, the Scottish FA, our counterparts at the EPL and others, we confirm that all SPFL fixtures scheduled for this weekend will be postponed as a mark of respect.

"The passing of the Queen, a constant in our lives for 70 years, is a profound and momentous occasion. It is therefore appropriate that professional football marks this event with all possible solemnity.

"We will update clubs and supporters when we have clarity over official arrangements for Her Majesty's funeral."

Several other sporting events, including all Scottish Rugby matches, have been postponed in a similar mark of respect.

The Scottish Junior FA came out early on Friday morning to say that all matches involving the association would be postponed over this weekend.

The Irish FA announced that all football in Northern Ireland would be postponed this weekend, as were the Premier League and EFL games in England.
