Scottish Election 2021: SNP win first marginal race in East Lothian

The SNP has won the East Lothian, the first constituency to change hands in the 2021 Holyrood election.

Paul Stewart McLennan, the SNP candidate took 17,968 votes while Martin Whitfield, a former Labour MP scored 16,789.

It is the first seat to change hands and if the party holds all its constituency seats the party is now just one short of an overall majority.

A majority has always been "a long shot" said Nicola Sturgeon as she arrived at the Glasgow count.

"However, she was "extremely happy and confident" that she will form fourth SNP government, something she is eager to do."
