Scottish Election 2021: SNP’s Fiona Hyslop holds onto Linlithgow

The SNP’s Fiona Hyslop held onto Linlithgow, taking her majority to 10,105, polling 22,693 votes.

Labour’s West Lothian Council depute leader Kirsteen Sullivan took second place on 12,588, with Bathgate’s Conservative councillor Charles Kennedy adding almost 2,000 votes to his 2016 showing in the constituency, polling 9,472 votes.

Labour, Conservative, and the Lib Dem candidate Sally Pattle, added to their vote count compared to 2016.

The turnout was 62.2% of the electorate of 75,672 with 46,879 valid votes cast across the constituency. Turnout was up almost 10% on 2016. The SNP’s majority was down in terms of percentage, but up in terms of votes to 10,105 – an extra 4,219 on the 2016 figure.

Labour candidate Councillor Sullivan, who represents the Whitburn and Blackburn and put an extra 2,561 votes on the Labour ticket from 2016 said: “With an ever-changing set of restrictions we still managed to increase our share of the vote and come a strong second.

"Our positive campaigning message has been well received and it’s clear that attitudes are shifting, people are receptive to the Scottish Labour message of unity and recovery. We have a strong basis on which to build going forward into next year’s council elections.”

The SNP topped the regional list vote with 18,735 votes. It was followed by Scottish Conservatives on 10,556 and Labour on 10,135. The Lib Dems polled 1,551. The Scottish Greens polled 3,566 while Alex Salmond’s Alba Party polled just 724 votes.
