Millions took to polling stations across Scotland yesterday for what has been branded the most important election in Holyrood’s short history.
The election was carried out in a different fashion to what we are used to this year due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Scots had to wear face coverings, numbers of people allowed inside at any one time were limited and more than a million people signed up to cast their ballot via the post this year.
And when the election window slammed shu t at 10pm, many traditionalists would have been brewing some coffee ahead of the usual release of an exit poll.
But Covid rules meant its release did not go ahead, along with the usual overnight count.
Many constituency results are expected to be announced this afternoon, while the regional lists are expected on Saturday.
This means that we will not have a picture of who has won the election until Sunday at the latest.
Scots can watch the drama unfold as the counting gets underway from this morning.
How can I watch the election count?
BBC One Scotland will begin its election coverage from midday this afternoon and will continue until 6pm.
After a short half-hour break for the BBC News at Six, the election coverage will resume once again until 8.05pm.
It will then restart on Saturday at midday and continue until 7.15pm.
Election coverage is likely to dominate both the Sky News and BBC News channels over the next 48 hours - with additional views on the local elections down south and the Senedd election in Wales.
