A Scottish dad has been given a devastating cancer diagnosis after initially being treated for kidney stones.
Mariusz Kaczor, from Aberdeen, had been plagued by weird pains despite being on medication but had put it down to the kidney issue.
However, last month his health took a turn for the worse and he began dramatically losing weight, reports the Daily Record.
The 46-year-old's concern was also sparked by various bizzare symptoms including itchy skin and jaundice, which was the start of his nightmare.
After he was rushed to hospital on February 16, he was kept there for two weeks as doctors carried out various inconclusive tests.
Eventually, a PET scan revealed a tumor on the bile ducts to the pancreas, liver, gallbladder and duodenum and, on March 9, Mariusz received the devastating diagnosis that he had a rare, inoperable cancer.
“I heard the verdict and I started to cry,” said Mariusz.
“I have a squamous cell carcinoma with metastasis to the liver and possibly the chest.
“I have been healthy since I was a child and never got sick.
“I lived like most of us.
“My entire immediate family is devastated, including my youngest son who is ten years old.”
Polish-born Mariusz will now face gruelling chemotherapy, but his hope is to return to his homeland for surgery.
He has set up a fundraiser to help cover the cost of treatment.
“I'm even going to be treated in another clinic if I don't get help here,” he said.
“Time is running out and we don't have the money to try to overcome this stuff.
“I never thought life could be so fragile.”
