Scottish cyclist in near miss after almost being hit by car on dual carriageway

A cyclist was involved in a heart-stopping near miss with a car on a busy Fife dual carriageway.

Shocking footage has emerged showing the close encounter on the A92 between Kirkcaldy and Glenrothes.

The incident appears to have happened late at night, with the video shared to the Fife Jammer Locations Facebook page on Sunday evening .

The driver, travelling in the same direction as the cyclist, swerved around the rider after their headlights caught their hi-vis jacket at the last minute. The cyclist also appears to be wearing a red flashing light.

Dozens of people have had their say on the incident with some suggesting the 70mph route is a dangerous one for cyclists, while others stating the rider had every right to be there.

Simon McGlary said: "Safest route by bike between Glenrothes and Kirkcaldy is, without a doubt, through Thornton. Between Kirkcaldy and Thornton you also have the path at the side of the road. All part of the local cycle network but recognised as part of the National Cycle Network."

David Martin added: "People can debate all they like. I passed him. Was very difficult to see until the last second. Especially when going round a bend lucky if he’s doing 20mph. Anyone doing this on an unlit fast road has a death wish."

SJ Smith commented: "Yeah I passed him last night, it was a close call as you could only see his small red light at the last minute!"

However Ross Brotherson said: "Also that fact the A92 is only a dual carriageway and not a motorway the cyclist had the right to be there!"
