Scottish Cup: Irvine Meadow urge fans to behave for Talbot tie after unsavoury chants

Irvine Meadow chairman Robert Jeffrey is urging fans to be on their best behaviour as the club gets ready to go under the national spotlight this weekend.

A bumper crowd is expected at Meadow Park on Saturday as the hosts take on Auchinleck Talbot in the first round of the Scottish Cup.

Police will be in attendance and the club have drafted in extra stewards to ensure the game passes without incident.

Jeffrey is keen to show the club in a positive light with TV cameras in place to record match highlights.

He admits some unsavoury chanting in recent weeks has given cause for concern and insists the club is determined to stamp out bad behaviour.

He said: “We’re asking fans to come along, enjoy the game and behave. Foul and abusive language isn’t welcome and won’t be tolerated.

“This is a big occasion for the club and a chance to show what Irvine Meadow is all about.”

A strict ban on alcohol will be in place and there will be no access to the pitch at half-time.

Kick off is 3pm and fans are urged to arrive early.
