Former Auchinleck Talbot striker Sean McIlroy is poised to line up against his old side in a crunch Scottish Cup tie tomorrow – after signing for opponents Irvine Meadow.
The 34-year-old goes straight into Meadow's squad for the first-round clash at Meadow Park after putting pen to paper on a deal this morning.
McIlroy, who hails from Irvine, had two spells with Talbot either side of playing in Australia. and was team mates of Meadow co-managers Colin Spence and James Latta and coach David Gillies.
He last played for the Beechwood Park side in 2019 before making the switch to Beith who he left in the summer to join Glenafton.
Meadow co-boss Colin Spence reckons the experienced frontman will bring something fresh to his frontline.
He told the club's Meadow TV: "Sean is a player we know very well. He has been a top player at this level for a number of years, Sean is a proven goalscorer and will provide much-needed experience and a physical presence at the top end of the park."
McIlory reckons he'll have to work hard to force his way into the starting XI.
He said: “I'm looking forward to playing for my home town team and teaming up with my ex team-mates James, Colin and Davie.”
“I'd love to make that number 9 Jersey mine, but I know it’s going to take a lot of hard work to do that. Scoring goals is what I love to do, and that will hopefully help lead the club up the table and back to silverware this season and beyond."
