Scottish Cup Final suffers fan blow as Euro 2020 deadline forces empty Hampden for showpiece

Hopes of there being fans inside Hampden for the Scottish Cup Final in May have been deal a major blow.

It had been hoped the final could be used as a test event for the Euros, when 25 per cent of the stadium will be filled with fans for Scotland’s games against Czech Republic and Croatia.

Now the BBC report that the national stadium will be unable to house fans for the game.

That’s down to the fact UEFA will be in control of the stadium from May 14, with the final eight days later on May 22.

It had been due to be held on May 8 but the schedule had to be changed to fit games in.

Hibs still harbour hopes of making it, and face Stranraer in the fourth round of the competition next weekend.

But if they make it all the way to the final, then there will be no supporters from Easter Road at the venue as they try to clinch a second Scottish Cup in five years.

It would be a far cry from the 2016 Final when half the stadium was filled with Hibs supporters who witnessed their side beat Rangers to lift the trophy for the first time since 1902.
