Scottish Cup draw: Motherwell handed away tie as Hamilton host familiar foes

Motherwell will face either Fortmartine United or Annan Athletic after the draw for the third round of the Scottish Cup was made this morning.

New gaffer Graham Alexander will take his side to either North Lodge Park in Pitmedden or Galabank in Annan later this month, with Formartine and Annan set to battle it out on Tuesday night after their tie was postponed due to a frozen pitch yesterday.

Hamilton were handed a home tie as they enter the competition, but face a familiar foe in St Mirren for an all-Premiership tie.

If Airdrie come through their tie with Edinburgh City, they will travel to League One rivals Forfar.

For Clyde, they will face another away day against either Elgin City or Championship Ayr United, if they get through their trip to Keith in their rearranged second round clash.

As well as the second round winners, there are 12 new entries with all clubs in the Scottish Premiership kicking off their cup campaigns.

And the sides drawn against top flight clubs will be required to carry out Covid testing to fulfil the fixture.

There are no replays in this season's competition, with all ties played to a finish via extra-time and penalties, if required.

The ties are due to take place on the weekend of January 30.
