Scottish Cup delight and despair for West Lothian's two representatives

Both West Lothian clubs involved in Scottish Cup first round action today were involved in dramatic battles away at higher league opponents.

But while it was delight for Linlithgow Rose, it was agony for Broxburn Athletic.

The Rose twice went behind at League Two side Brechin City before netting twice in the space of two second half minutes to seal a famous 3-2 triumph and book their place in the second round draw.

Rory Currie had fired the hosts in front on 14 minutes only for veteran striker Tommy Coyne to ensure the sides went into the break on level terms as he headed home from a corner.

City once again got their noses in front as Kieran Inglis netted seven minutes after the break. However, Ruari MacLennan and then Scott Stevenson scored in quick succession on 70 and 72 minutes to turn the game on its head.

The Rose were able to see out the remainder of the contest for a tremendous victory against a side two divisions higher.

Broxburn Athletic, though, took Highland League outfit Nairn County all the way to penalties following a 0-0 draw before being edged out 4-3 on spot-kicks.
