Scottish Cup: Brechin 1 Darvel 1 as Ayrshire side earn draw for historic spot in last 32 hat

Darvel are in the hat for the last 32 in their first ever season in the senior Scottish Cup.

The East Ayrshire side bagged a 1-1 draw away to Highland League Brechin City - but despite being a league below the Glebe Park side, Vale will head home disappointed after taking the lead.

Jordan Kirkpatrick fired Michael Kennedy's men ahead in the 32nd minute before David Cox levelled after 56.

The match will be replayed at Recreation Park on Saturday, with the winners set to visit Arbroath.

Chances were in short supply until just after the half hour mark when Kirkpatrick fired the visitors ahead.

He latched on to a Jordan Allan cross to volley it into the net spectacularly.

Chris Truesdale was almost left red-faced in the 48th minute when he saved Garry Wood’s strike, but the effort almost dipped into the net - but thankfully for the Vale stopper it went over for a corner.

The hosts equalised in the 56th minute thanks to former Kilmarnock player David Cox who came through the Rugby Park academy.

He rattled home a stinging effort four minutes before the hour mark to level the scores.

Scott Ferguson had a decent chance three minutes later when Darren Miller sent him through, but Brechin stopper Iain Ross was equal to the effort as he got out well.

Iain Davidson went incredibly close to giving Brechin the lead in the 70th minute but his glancing header from a corner flashed past the post.

And Cox looked to double his money in the 83rd minute as he headed an effort, but it went comfortably wide in the end.
