Scottish Cup: Airdrie star Callum Smith wary of ex-Diamonds in Stenhousemuir side

Airdrie striker Callum Smith admits they will be very wary of Stenhousemuir in Saturday's Scottish Cup clash with a number of ex-Diamonds lining up for their opponents.

Former Airdrie skipper Sean Crighton moved to Ochilview from the League One outfit in the summer and he will be reunited with his old side this weekend, along with Nat Wedderburn and Euan O'Reilly.

Ian Murray's men will go in as favourites against the League Two outfit, who currently sit in mid-table in their division and have won five of their last six games.

But Smith is taking nothing for granted ahead of facing his old pals.

He said: "Sean was a great player for us, he was our captain, he always helped out with the training and the coaching so all the boys really respected him.

"It will be good to see Sean again but we'll go about our business the way we normally would.

"All the boys are looking forward to it. They've got a few Airdrie players in there with Nat Wedderburn and Euan O'Reilly in there as well, so they'll be right up for it.

"We need to be ready for that, but we'll just got to do our normal game and hopefully come out on the winning side.

"They are a good team with players that we know well.

"We are hoping to get the better of them but it won't be an easy job.

"They are on a good bit of form in League Two, so we know we'll need to be on top form to get through."

Smith, who started the campaign with Championship side Hamilton before a move across Lanarkshire in August, has enjoyed cup clashes this term with three of his six goals this term coming in knockout competitions.

And he added: "I always enjoy the cup games. That wee change from the league is nice and I'm always looking to add to my goal tally.

"You always know in the back of the head that you've really got to go for it in these games.

"This is the Scottish Cup; it's always hard. It's a knockout tournament and you've got to be on your game.

"If we do win on Saturday you are hoping to get a good draw in the next round."
