After weeks of campaign Scots will head to the polls today to vote for local councillors to fill council chambers across the country.
A total of 1,227 councillors will be elected to 32 local authorities over next couple of days.
At the last election on May 4, 2017 the SNP won the most seats with 431 councillors being elected to town halls.
While, the Scottish Conservatives leap-frogged Labour into second place picking up 276 seats, while Kezia Dugdale 's party achieved 262 councillors which was a loss of 133 on the previous election in 2012.
Here is all the information you'll need for polling day today, including what time polls open in the morning - and what to do if you have an emergency and can't get to your polling station to vote:
What time do polls open?
Polls across Scotland will open at 7am this morning (Thursday, May 5), and will close at 10pm.
As long as you are in the queue at the polling station by 10pm, you will still be able to cast your vote in the election.
Ballots will be counted on Friday, May 6 with results expected from lunchtime.
What happens if I can't get to the polling station?
If you have a medical emergency today and cannot make it to vote, you can apply for an emergency proxy vote.
It only applies if you yourself have fallen ill - you can't get an emergency proxy vote if a member of your family has had an emergency.
The application for an emergency proxy vote on medical grounds must also be supported by a registered health professional, such as a doctor, nurse, optician, or psychologist.
You can also apply for an emergency proxy vote if you are called away for work unexpectedly.
Can I vote if I forgot to register?
No. If you are not registered, you will not be able to vote in this election.
Can I vote online?
No.
