Scottish clubs await transfer window decision as Uefa set out plans for October extension

Uefa have tabled plans to extend the transfer window until October as various European leagues extend their seasons into the summer months.

A meeting of members associations over video conference proposed the extension to the period where clubs are allowed to register new signings.

The window, which normally ends in late August or early September, has not yet been opened by the Scottish Football Association (SFA) amid the coronavirus pandemic.

Under the plans, the window would now close in the Autumn, giving clubs the opportunity to fully assess budgets before making signings.

However, under rules laid out by football's governing body Fifa, no transfer window can last more than 12 weeks, meaning it would need to be sanctioned by those in Geneva.

It would mean the Scottish window would not be able to open until July 13 - just over a fortnight before the top flight season is due to kick off.

In a statement on Thursday, Uefa said: “The deadline for player registration for the group stage of the 2020/21 Uefa club competitions has been set to 6 October 2020.

"As a result, the Uefa Executive Committee called on all member associations to adopt a harmonised end date to the upcoming summer transfer window, with this date set as 5 October 2020.”
