Scottish climber toasts conquering Mount Everest with a cold can of Tennent’s

A Scottish climber has taken a can of Tennent's to new heights by sparking open a can of the Glasgow-brewed beer on the world's highest peak: Mount Everest.

Beer lovering ex-pat Michael Gardiner marked conquering the mountain by enjoying a can of Tennent's after taking on the ultimate challenge to climb the 17,598ft to Mount Everest’s base camp.

With the 29-year-old Michael deciding there was only one way to mark the occasion when they finally arrived last Wednesday at 6:50am – with a can he brought along for the journey.

How demand for Tennent's Lager in Cuba required them to open a pottery in Possil

Michael said: “Tennent’s is my choice back home, and being away from Scotland, I try to buy a pint wherever I can. I initially took a can so I could get picture with it at the top, but by the time we completed the climb, I was ready for a beer!"

Originally from Ballachulish in the Highlands; Michael moved to Australia in 2014, and decided to take on the challenge in the Himalayas after reading about the hike and researching on YouTube.

The 12-day round trip had its highs and lows, with Michael picking up a bad cold in the last couple of days before base camp making the hike much harder on his body.

Alan McGarrie, Group Brand Director at Tennent’s said: “We know that Tennent’s is Scotland’s top pint, but this is taking things to the next level. Climbing to the Everest base-camp is a brilliant achievement, and what better way to celebrate than with a can of Tennent’s.

“This is definitely one of the strangest and most interesting places I’ve heard of someone enjoying a Tennent’s, congratulations to Michael for achieving this feat.”
