CAR dealerships and garages can continue to support customers despite the tightening of lockdown restrictions. And the Scottish Government’s decision has been welcomed by industry leaders north of the Border.
A Holyrood spokesman confirmed that the new regulations coming into force on Saturday (January 16) meant people could still visit dealerships to collect a newly purchased vehicle or for repairs, servicing and MOTs.
And he stressed that while outdoor car lots were previously classed as essential retail, people should now only be visiting forecourts to collect a new set of wheels.
Scottish Motor Trade Association chief Sandy Burgess said: “I’m delighted the Scottish Government has recognised the need to ensure that the public are still able to secure a replacement car under the new restrictions.
“Click and collect has become the norm for many of our dealers across the country, as it is recognised as the best way to protect their staff and customers given the high standard of safety protocols that are incorporated in the process.
“Consumers should know that although the term ‘click and collect’ suggests the need for a digital device, most of our members also provide the ability to deal over the phone – recognising that many people still prefer to speak with a real person.
“This decision allows our industry the opportunity to continue to serve Scotland’s motorists through these challenging times.”
