Scottish cafe strikes back after suggestion they 'seat ugly people upstairs'

A SCOTTISH cafe has hit back after it was suggested they were “seating old and ugly people” upstairs.

The Brooklyn Cafe in the southside of Glasgow was the subject of speculation last week after someone posted on the social media site Reddit.

“Me and my partner are in our 50s and always get seated upstairs at the Brooklyn Cafe,” they wrote.

“We went in today and it was empty - we still got seated upstairs. After we went in, lots of other (younger) people arrived who all got seated downstairs. Eventually one more person gets seated upstairs - she looked probably a bit older than us.”

They added: “Got us thinking if the Brooklyn Cafe is using Curb Your Enthusiasm style seating and putting the old and ugly people upstairs.

“How old/good looking are you and where do you get seated in the Brooklyn Cafe?”

This led to many joking about visiting the cafe.

“I went there with a girl and they sat her downstairs and me upstairs,” said one person.

Another added: “Debunked. My gran says I'm properly handsome and they put me upstairs!”

But the cafe has now hit back amid the drama through a series of empire biscuits (below).

On Instagram, they posted a photo of the biscuits decorated with white and black frosting and saying phrases such as “Third Floor Ugliness”, “My gran says I’m handsome” and “Cafe Drama”.

This led to a mixed response, with some saying it was funny but others suggesting it was “thin skinned”.

“They took a reasonably humorous post and made a bit of patter out of it,” said one person.

“I don't see it as being snide or thin skinned at all.”

Another added: “The empires strike back.”
