Scottish boy, 13, attacked in street while waiting for pals as police scrambled

Police are investigating after a 13 year-old boy was attacked in Midlothian.

The incident took place in the Newtongrange area of Dalkeith, Midlothian, at around 7pm on Friday, October 22, when the 13 year-old was assaulted while he was waiting for his friends.

Edinburgh Live understands that the male who carried out the assault is thought to have been drinking and was unknown to the victim.

The attacker is understood to have approached from the Mayfield direction before fleeing towards Gorebridge.

He had dark hair, slim build and was wearing a red t-shirt/top. He then tried to board a bus to Gorebridge but was chased off the bus after causing another outburst.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Officers are carrying out enquiries after a 13-year-old boy was assaulted in the Newtongrange area of Dalkeith on the evening of Friday, 22 October. The suspect is described as being a male in his late teens, with a slim build and short dark hair. He was wearing a red t-shirt.

"Anyone with information should call police on 101, quoting incident 3299 of 22 October. Alternatively, you can call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111, if you wish to remain anonymous."
