Scottish bowlers just one match away from becoming mixed world champions

A SCOTTISH bowler team is one match away from becoming world champions.

Beth Riva from Gifford will team up with Jason Banks from Invurire to take on Katherine Rednall and Paul Foster in the final of the Mixed Pairs at the World Indoor Bowls Championships.

The final is played today at 1pm.

During the second set in end four of 11, the Scottish pair were ahead.

Riva and Banks overcame Lucy Smith and Robert Paxton in the quarter-finals on Friday.

Then, on Saturday, they came through against the English pairing of Nicole Rogers and Les Gillett.

Riva is competing at the championships, near Great Yarmouth, for the first time.

The Edinburgh Napier University student is also through to the last four of the Ladies Singles.

On Sunday, she defeated South Africa’s Colleen Piketh.

Tomorrow (Wednesday), she faces Chelsea Spencer for a place in the final.
