Scottish Borders cable company acquires rival's UAE business

Scottish Borders-based cable company Emtelle Group has acquired a rival firm in Dubai for an undisclosed sum.

It came to an agreement with Afripipes to acquire the company's Middle East operations.

The expansion will see Emtelle’s manufacturing capability expanded by 15 manufacturing lines, which means in total its number of lines will exceed 75 globally.

Following completion, Emtelle stated that the transaction will also take its total employee number to more than 600.

Afripipes will continue to operate as a standalone business and brand while the integration process occurs.

Sanjay Nischal, the current director at Afripipes, will join Emtelle’s senior management team.

Emtelle manufacturers pre-connectorised blown fibre, cabling and ducted solutions. It was founded in Jedburgh in 1980 and opened a manufacturing facility in Hawick during 1999.

Tony Rodgers, chief executive at Emtelle Group, said: “The additional capacity married with Emtelle’s long-standing excellence in product innovation and customer service strengthens our position in the global arena, improves efficiencies and better positions us to continue to deliver on excellence worldwide.”
