Scottish BBC reporter hits back at Twitter troll after being told to ‘speak proper English’

A Scottish BBC TV news reporter has hit back at a Twitter troll after being told to ‘speak proper accented English".

Glaswegian Martin Patience, the BBC’s Middle East Correspondent, put the pompous English troll firmly in his place after he complained to TV chiefs at BBCWorld that the Scot's accent wasn't clear and that he should “speak more middle class".

But the TV presenter had the perfect response and replied: “Look pal, in Glasgow I’m considered posh.”

Patience hit back after irate Twitter user @Oldblackbeard1 took to the social media site to moan about the fact the reporter was difficult to understand.

He said Patience should “speak better accented English”.

However scores of furious Twitter users backed Patience and his accent.

Joiner John Mackay @Manuforti1968 tweeted “Sorry. Can ye say ah’t again, a bit mair slowly and louder. Canna mak oot a thing yer sayin’ min.”

Whilst Don McGrattan added: “Open yer lugs, switch on yer heid. Try, it’s no hard.”

Robert Gordon @concernedlocal1 added: “At least you’ve kept your accent unlike a lot of Scottish commentators. #BeProud”

In a matter of hours  Patience's tweet had 950 likes, 60 retweets and 53 comments in support.
