Scottish band The Bluebells will headline Musicfest Mainstage festival in Bothwell

Music lovers will be feeling Young At Heart at this year’s Musicfest Mainstage festival in Bothwell after pop legends The Bluebells were announced as headliners.

The Bothwell band, who reached number 8 in the UK charts with their catchy hit ‘Young At Heart’, will be appearing at the event on Saturday, September 5.

The Bluebells had three Top 40 hits in the UK singles chart in total, all written by guitarist and founder member Robert Hodgens.

The team that run Bothwell Scarecrow Festival are behind Musicfest Mainstage and describe it as a “family-friendly festival not to be missed”.

Returning to Uddingston Cricket and Sports Club in Bothwell, the music fest organisers will announce more acts soon including some up-and-coming local talent.

Having gained sponsorship from Balmer Care Homes, the festival team will have a full bar in place with refreshments for adults, and kids can look forward to a whole host of fun activities including a fun fair, stalls, food vendors and more.

Musicfest Mainstage organisers insist they are keeping ticket prices low for crowds again this year and are introducing a tiered pricing system.

This means that the sooner people buy tickets, the cheaper they will be.

Joe Mulholland, chairman of the Scarecrow Festival committee, said: “Around 2000 people attended last year’s Musicfest Mainstage event and we are hoping for a great turnout this year too.

“The full line-up is still to be announced, but we have also added another local band Jimbo Gibson, giving them the opportunity to play the big stage.”

Tickets can be bought for £17 until March 31, then £19 until May 31, then £21 until July 31 and the prices are £23 until the day before the festival.

Organisers say on the event page: “Last year’s event was truly spectacular and since 2020 is the 10th anniversary of the Bothwell Scarecrow Festival, you can rest assured we’ll be pulling out all the stops to make this event better.

“We want as many people as possible to come along and soak up the music-festival atmosphere.”

Children aged under 12 gain free entry, although every additional child’s ticket is £5. All kids must be accompanied by an adult or guardian.
