LEADING motor industry supplier Scottish Leather Group has been praised by Finance Secretary Derek Mackay for its top-notch products and Brexit strategy.
The senior Scottish Government minister spoke after a tour of the group’s Bridge of Weir Leather site in Renfrewshire.
He heard how some 20,000 hides a week are sustainably manufactured for brands such as Aston Martin, Ford, Jaguar Land Rover, McLaren and Volvo, with more than 80 per cent going to 30-plus countries around the world.
Mr Mackay said: “It is encouraging to see the demand for high-quality Scottish products, such as those made by Scottish Leather Group, continue to rise.
“Improving export performance is key to Scotland’s economic future growth and it is critical that businesses continue to assess and plan for the challenges of Brexit.
“The products manufactured here are supplied to some of the biggest names in the car industry and it was positive to hear that the team are putting measures in place to prepare for Brexit and build resilience against potentially significant changes.”
Scottish Leather Group boss Iain McFadyen said: “Without doubt there are challenges ahead but, worldwide, demand continues to rise for our products, and we have every intention of growing our contribution to the economy of Scotland, of which we are very proud.”
