Scottish amateur leagues to amalgamate in bid to rejuvenate grassroots game

Two of Scotland's longest and established amateur football leagues will amalgamate in a bid to rejuvenate the grassroots game.

Officials from the Central Scottish and Scottish Amateur Football Leagues have been locked in talks from December to create fresh ideas for the West of Scotland and central belt areas.

League president Jim McKinney says it's all systems go ahead of the new set-up's kick-off in August.

McKinney said: "This is an exciting new chapter for amateur football and we're confident the new venture will give the game a much-needed boost after what has been a very tough couple of seasons after the pandemic.

"The member clubs are looking forward to some fresh challenges and the door is open to any existing amateur or newly-formed clubs who might be interested in joining the new set-up."

Any clubs interested in joining the new set-up should contact Chris Wilson by emailing: chris.wilson62@hotmail.co.uk
